Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Management & Entrepreneur Development (DYPIMED), Varale, Pune, successfully organized a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) in collaboration with Habbinson International on “Design Thinking as a Powerful Approach for Transforming Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Design in Management Education.” The programme was designed to empower faculty members with innovative, learner-centric teaching methodologies that align with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, institutional autonomy, and Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
The session was led by Ms. M. Swati, a Learning and Organizational Development Professional with more than 18 years of experience in Learning & Development, Leadership Development, Instructional Design, Competency Mapping, Employee Engagement, and Organizational Development. With certifications from TISS, Cambridge University ESOL, and IBM, she shared valuable insights into designing impactful learning experiences for both academic and corporate environments.
The programme introduced participants to the complete Design Thinking framework, enabling them to understand how empathy, creativity, collaboration, and innovation can transform classroom teaching and curriculum design. Through highly interactive sessions, faculty members explored the five stages of Design Thinking—Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test—along with experiential learning techniques based on Kolb’s Learning Cycle.
Faculty members actively participated in empathy interviews, classroom observations, learner persona creation, journey mapping, brainstorming techniques such as SCAMPER and Brainwriting, and the “How Might We” framework. Practical group activities, classroom redesign exercises, and micro-teaching sessions encouraged participants to collaboratively develop innovative solutions for enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes.
