Overview of MBA On-the-Job Training (OJT)

The On-the-Job Training (OJT) is an integral and mandatory component of the MBA programme, designed to provide students with hands-on industry exposure and real-world business experience. Through OJT, students apply theoretical concepts learned in the classroom to practical business environments across industries and organizations.

At the end of Semester II, every MBA student is required to undertake On-the-Job Training (OJT) with a recognized private or public sector organization.

Objectives of MBA OJT Program

  • To bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practices
  • To develop practical business, analytical, and professional skills
  • To gain first-hand exposure to organizational structure, operations, and management
  • To enhance employability, industry readiness, and specialization-based expertise

Duration & Structure of OJT

The MBA OJT Program is conducted over a total period of 12 weeks (3 months), structured as follows:

8 Weeks of training in an organization

  • Minimum 30 hours per week
  • Conducted in industry / company / bank / organization

4 Weeks of pre and post training activities

  • Proposal preparation
  • Data collection & analysis
  • Report writing & documentation

Note: OJT must be conducted outside the academic institution to ensure authentic industry exposure.

Nature of OJT Work

The OJT may include:

Research-Based Projects

  • Primary or secondary data-based studies

Operational Assignments

  • Live projects, business analysis, market studies, process improvement tasks, etc.

All assignments must be aligned with the student’s chosen MBA specialization.

Key Guidelines for MBA OJT

  • OJT is mandatory for all MBA students
  • Students must obtain prior written approval from: Faculty Guide, Director of the Institute
  • The OJT topic and organization must be approved before commencement
  • OJT must be individual (group projects are not permitted)
  • OJT must involve actual industry-related tasks
  • Online OJT is not permitted
  • OJT should include fieldwork and/or desk work within the organization
