The workshop aimed to prepare postgraduate students for their transition from academic life to the corporate world by developing their professional presence, personal identity, workplace behaviour, and grooming skills.

The programme emphasized the importance of building a strong professional image and understanding how communication, confidence, personal presentation, and workplace etiquette contribute to long-term career success.

Inauguration and Introduction of the Resource Person

Dr. Meghana Bhilare, Director of DYPIMED, introduced the esteemed resource person, Ms. Smieetaa Niekaam, Leadership and Behavioural Transformation Consultant. She highlighted the significance of professional and behavioural development in helping students become confident, responsible, and workplace-ready individuals.

Dr. Meghana Bhilare also felicitated Ms. Smieetaa Niekaam in recognition of her contribution to the programme.

Key Highlights of the Workshop

The workshop was structured around three important dimensions of professional development.

1. Make an Impression – First Impressions and Professional Presence

This session focused on the role of first impressions in professional interactions. Students explored how appearance, body language, communication style, confidence, and overall presentation influence the way others perceive them.

The discussion encouraged participants to become more conscious of their professional presence and develop positive habits for interviews, meetings, presentations, and other workplace interactions.

2. Make Yourself Memorable – Personal Brand and Professional Identity

The second component focused on personal branding and the development of a distinct professional identity. Students reflected on their strengths, values, communication styles, and the qualities they want others to associate with them.

The session highlighted the importance of communicating individual strengths effectively, demonstrating consistency in professional behaviour, and building a credible personal brand that supports future career opportunities.

3. Look and Act the Part – Professional Grooming and Workplace Readiness

The third component addressed professional grooming, presentation, etiquette, and appropriate workplace conduct. Students gained insights into the behavioural expectations of corporate environments and the importance of maintaining professionalism in everyday interactions.

The session encouraged participants to develop workplace-ready habits and understand how discipline, respectful communication, and professional conduct contribute to a positive working environment.

Interactive Learning and Professional Reflection

Throughout the workshop, students were encouraged to reflect on three essential questions:

  • How do I show up? – Understanding personal presentation, confidence, and professional presence.
  • What do I want to be remembered for? – Identifying individual strengths and developing a meaningful professional identity.
  • How do I conduct myself as a professional? – Recognizing the importance of workplace etiquette, communication, and responsible behaviour.

These reflections helped participants understand that professional success extends beyond academic qualifications. Effective communication, confidence, personal branding, appropriate grooming, and professional behaviour are equally important in establishing a successful career.
