MBA Specializations – Programme Structure

As part of the MBA curriculum prescribed by Savitribai Phule Pune University, students are required to choose a specialization during the MBA programme. Specializations enable students to gain in-depth knowledge and practical exposure in a focused management domain, enhancing career readiness and employability.

At Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Management & Entrepreneur Development, Talegaon, Pune, MBA specializations are offered in alignment with university norms, industry relevance, and faculty expertise.

MBA Specializations Offered

Marketing Management (MKT)

Focuses on marketing strategy, consumer behavior, branding, digital marketing, sales management, and market research.

Finance Management (FIN)

Covers financial analysis, corporate finance, investment management, taxation, risk management, and financial planning.

Human Resource Management (HRM)

Emphasizes talent acquisition, training & development, performance management, labor laws, and organizational behavior.

Operations & Supply Chain Management (OSCM)

Focuses on operations strategy, supply chain design, logistics, quality management, and process optimization.

Business Analytics (BA)

Focuses on data analysis, business intelligence, predictive modeling, and data-driven decision-making to improve organizational performance and strategy.

Agri-Business Management (ABM)

Covers agri-marketing, rural finance, supply chain management, food processing, and sustainable agribusiness practices across the agricultural value chain.

Pharma & Healthcare Management (P&HM)

Emphasizes healthcare operations, pharmaceutical marketing, hospital administration, regulatory compliance, and healthcare systems management.

Specialization Selection Guidelines

  • Students are required to choose their specialization at the beginning of Semester III.
  • There is no provision for Major–Minor specialization combinations.
  • The selected specialization remains applicable for all specialization-specific courses and assessments.

Specialization-Based Academic Components

The following components are mandatory and shall be pursued strictly within the chosen specialization:

  • Desk Research
  • Field Project
  • On-the-Job Training (OJT)
  • Research Project

These components are treated as Subject Core Courses and are evaluated accordingly.

Institute-Level Specialization Policy

The institute may offer only selected specializations based on:

  • Industry demand
  • Faculty strength and expertise
  • Student interest

Employability potential

A specialization may not be offered if less than 20% of students register for it.

Similarly, an elective course may not be offered if it fails to meet the minimum 20% student registration requirement.

Open Electives

  • There is no provision for Open Electives in the MBA programme.
  • Students may pursue additional specialization-related learning only as per applicable university provisions.

Formative Assessment (FA) / Comprehensive Concurrent Evaluation (CCE)

The MBA programme follows a structured Formative Assessment / Comprehensive Concurrent Evaluation (FA/CCE) system to ensure continuous academic evaluation.

Key FA/CCE Guidelines

  1. The course teacher prepares the FA/CCE scheme before the commencement of the term.
  2. Each FA/CCE scheme clearly maps assessments to Course Outcomes (COs) and targeted attainment levels.
  3. The FA/CCE scheme is approved by the Director / Head of Department / Academic Authority.
  4. The approved scheme is communicated to students and uploaded on the institute website within the first week of the term.
  5. Each FA/CCE item carries a minimum of 25 marks.
  6. 3 Credit Course: Minimum three FA/CCE items (final score converted to 50 using average or best-two method).
  7. 2 Credit Course: Minimum two FA/CCE items (final score converted to 50).
  8. FA/CCE activities are spread across the duration of the course and documented with CO attainment levels.
  9. Assessment outcomes are duly signed by the course teacher, programme coordinator, and academic head.
  10. Feedback and guidance are provided to students within one week of assessment.
  11. Make-up or remedial FA/CCE activities may be conducted as per institute discretion.
  12. Final FA/CCE scores and CO attainment levels are communicated to students at the end of the term.
